Child Safe Code of Conduct

Media Queensland & Sports Media Queensland is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all children and young people we work with.

Our company follows the principles of the Queensland Child Protection Act 1999, the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000, and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all photographers, staff, contractors, and volunteers when working with children.

Our Commitment

We will:

  • Protect the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every child.

  • Treat children, families, and staff with respect and fairness at all times.

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all backgrounds and abilities.

  • Ensure children are always supervised during photography sessions.

  • Obtain written parental or guardian consent before taking or using any images.

  • Use and store all images securely and responsibly.

  • Report any concerns, disclosures, or suspicions of harm immediately.

Our Staff and Contractors Must Not

  • Engage in any form of abuse, discrimination, or harassment.

  • Photograph or film a child without proper consent and supervision.

  • Use language or behaviour that is inappropriate, offensive, or intimidating.

  • Develop private or personal relationships with children or communicate with them privately (including online or via social media).

  • Share or post images of children without explicit, written parental consent.

  • Ignore or delay reporting any concerns about child safety.

Professional Conduct During Photography

  • Photographers must always act professionally and respectfully.

  • Physical contact with children is avoided unless necessary for safety (e.g. helping a child move safely into position).

  • Children’s comfort and dignity come first — if a child feels uncomfortable, the session is paused or stopped.

  • All sessions take place in visible and supervised environments (school staff, parents, or coaches present).

Reporting Concerns

If any staff member, contractor, volunteer, or member of the public has concerns about a child’s safety:

  • Report it immediately to our Child Protection Officer (CPO)
    or company management.

  • We will respond promptly and in line with Queensland legislation.
